Celebrating 50 years of GAP /
Following the first 12 months of trading - during
which Gordon Anderson had opened his first depot
in Linwood, acquired Clyde Diesel in Glasgow and
achieved an initial turnover of £150,000 - much of the
next decade was spent consolidating the business.
In 1973, Gordon acquired Rowan & Bowden’s
Plant Assets who specialised in small plant
and tools. The company also won several
NCB (National Coal Board) discard contracts,
including Cardowan, Bedley and Killoch
Collieries. A third depot was purchased in
Prestwick and Gordon’s elder son Douglas
1970s
joined the business in 1978. By the end of the
decade, Gordon Anderson Plant was widely
recognised as a key contender in the Scottish
plant hire industry.
